The French financial institution BNP Paribas is working with the Bank of China (BOC) to promote the use of China's digital currency, the digital yuan, among the bank's business clients.Through this collaboration, BNP Paribas China's corporate clients will be able to link up with the BOC system, granting them access to an e-CNY management system where they can manage their digital yuan wallets by connecting them to their bank accounts, monitor transactions, and make payments using China's digital currency. The administration system also guarantees to facilitate the use of digital cash by customers in real-time transactions. BNP has revealed that the digital yuan management system can enable "efficient, real-time and convenient practice." French Banking Giant BNP Paribas China's central bank digital currency (CBDC) is being investigated for usage in sectors like smart contracts, supply chain financing, utility payments, and international trade. The Bank of China's (BOC) system will allow BNP Paribas' corporate clients to access China's central bank digital currency (CBDC) - or "e-CNY." BOC is one of eight banks authorized to handle digital currencies in China. During the Lunar New Year holiday, China distributed digital yuan worth millions of dollars to encourage the use of the CBDC. Over 180 million yuan ($26.5 million) worth of CBDCs was purportedly distributed through various city-run programs like subsidies and consumption incentives. Changshu, a city in China, reportedly informed all of its civil officials in April that their complete salary would be paid in digital yuan beginning in May of 2023. All city employees, including those in the public sector and state-owned enterprises, are subject to the terms of remuneration. Hong Kongers have not shown much enthusiasm for the Chinese government's push to promote the adoption of its CBDC, despite the government's efforts to promote the digital yuan. Only 625 locals signed up for the digital yuan wallet over the first four days of its hard launch.
